Chef Chris Shackelford
Chef Chris Shackelford joined the Dolphin Bay Resort & Spa culinary team as Executive Chef in October 2024. Chef Shackelford was not new to the Dolphin Bay team as he was consulting for the culinary program since July of 2022 prior to a mutual decision to join full-time.
Chef Shackelford grew up in Santa Ynez Valley and at a young age was surrounded by food as the small property he lived on had chickens, rabbits, gardens, and produce growing everywhere. Watching his father butcher animals and grow vegetables and fruit was just a part that set his path to becoming a Chef, Sommelier, and Restaurateur. His interest in food was influenced later in his teens as he worked both in dining rooms and kitchens in the area. The winemakers and food enthusiasts he came in contact with at this impressionable age changed all his plans to be anything different than someone deeply rooted in the Food & Beverage industry.
His love for food, service, and hospitality was nurtured in many Relais & Chateaux properties, small restaurants, and large hotels throughout California. Most notably he was Matre d’ of the world renowned Château du Sureau and on the opening Food & Beverage Team of Bacara Resort & Spa. In 2006 he set off on his own both opening his own award winning restaurant, Trelio Food & Wine, along with consulting for hotels, restaurants, and events with his consulting company Creative Food & Wine.
Since the opening of his restaurant Chef Shackelford has consulted in almost every aspect of Food & Beverage including wholesale, corporate menu development, business openings, and private cellar management.
